Happy Days in the Library
Have you seen what the Fonz is up to now? Henry Winkler has become an author. His Hank Zipzer series is wildly popular. Check out his site. Hank Zipzer.com
Mr. Winkler came to Houston in January, and Mrs. Purvis got to meet him and hear him tell about his writing. He is a patient, soft-spoken gentleman. He showed a great sense of humor as he visited with more than 200 librarians who lined up to meet him and get autographs.
Cobb library sponsored a Letter to the Author Contest. Mr. Winkler was thrilled to receive all the letters. Isaac Tijerina was the lucky winner. His prize was an autographed copy of Day of the Iguana from Hank Zipzer series. Congratulations Isaac!

Middle Ages
As the social studies classes began their study of the Middle Ages, Mrs. P presented a timeline lesson covering Europe from the Ice Age to the present. Mrs. Dearing got in the spirit of the times and dressed in costume with Mrs. P. During the lesson, students held a Roman coin that might have been used by a plague victim to pay his doctor for a cure. Students learned about the Crusades and trade routes to the East. The mini museum display features a collection of pop-up books and pewter figurines.
Sorry, You're Stepping on my Sari
Following their study of India, Mrs. P brought a fashion show to the hallways. She demonstrated how to wear a sari and all the girls had a chance to tie one on and model for their classes. They looked elegant and dramatic in shimmering silk. Sorry boys, this is a ladies' costume.
