Readers Become Leaders
By Jenifer Hernandez
Reading for the Future is a program that encourages students to read and helps them improve their reading. The program takes place after school every Wednesday and Thursday from 3:45 pm-5:00 pm. Students were specially selected to receive extra attention and support on their reading, but first needed permission from their parents. As Mrs. Sivil explained “so far everything has been successful.” Mrs. Sivil and Mrs. Morris wrote a grant last year to fund the program. Good readers perform better in school; therefore the purpose of Reading for the Future is to increase students reading skills. The students receive a dress down pass or a 1 minute early release for lunch for attending this program. Mrs. Sivil also mentioned “reading and discussing with the students, lets me get to know them better.” Teachers read with a group of 4 to 6 students at each session.
