Students Recognized at Presidential Awards Ceremony

By Anthony Luu

On May 8, 2007, NSMS hosted the presidential award ceremony, which acknowledged hard-working middle school students who didn’t get much recognition. Students were either given The Presidents Award for Academic Excellence, or The Presidents Award for Academic Achievement. The requirements for getting the award for academic excellence, is that students must be recommended by 2 teachers, have a good behavioral record, and have averaged a 90 or above on there 7th and 8th grade years. The award for academic achievement has likewise requirements, but students don’t have to have the grade average of 90 or above. Students and parents were first greeted by the faculty and staff, presented colors by the NSMS color guard, sung to by the NSMS choir, (Non Nobis Domine and What’ll I do), presented the awards by Mrs. Netra McMiller, Kenna Cotton, and Mrs. Monica Navarrete. Students were read poetry by Annie Lennox and encouraged all students to try hard and succeed in life.
