The Yearbook Staff is 4 Real

By Ki’ara Tarver

Yearbook sponsor, Mr. Burke explained that yearbook staff has won the Interscholastic League Press Conference National Award and also a Civil Crown for 2005 Yearbook’s issue. Only one out of eight yearbooks in all wins Silver Crowns.

Mr. Burke said that when the yearbook staff began it had eleven students. This year, the staff has grown to twenty-four students. The students interested in joining the yearbook staff thought that the projects the yearbook staff did were fun. Mr. Burke also said that sometimes he takes the pictures for the yearbook, but most of the time the kids photograph activities. He explained the way they chose who will be in the yearbook staff was by reviewing submitted applications, conducting an interviewed by the current staff, and then selection is made for who will be in the next yearbook staff.

The 2007 award winning yearbooks will currently be sold in the cafeteria for twenty-five dollars.

UPDATE:

2006 NSMS Stampede has earned an Award of Achievement from the Interscholastic Press Conference Association (ILPC) at the University of Texas at Austin (state UIL journalism competition). That's a second place rating! The sports section, caption writing, and overall concept earned Distinguished Merit honors this year. This is the 3rd such award in four years for our NSMS journalism students!
