The Business Services Department functions as an arm of the Operations Division of the District, and is fully devoted to the mission of providing superior services, support and safety to the GPISD community. Staff members are expected to exhibit integrity, commitment and excellence, while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism in school finances.

Dedication to Stewardship

In keeping with the goals set forth by our Board of Trustees and Superintendent, the Business Services Department will provide prudent stewardship of its financial resources to best support student success. Targets identified to demonstrate the efforts to achieve this goal are:

Dedication to Transparency

The Galena Park ISD Business Services Department is dedicated to showcasing financial transparency for the community and public. The website maintains an online check register, financial reports, and budgets to assure the public can have a clear and consistent picture of spending in our school district. We are proud to have earned the Texas Comptroller's Leadership Circle Platinum Award for financial transparency for five consecutive years (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014).

For demonstrating transparency and fiscal accountability, GPISD has been awarded the Association Of School Business Officials Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting (COE) for excellence and best practices in financial reporting.

This has been awarded to the District for fiscal years 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015

For demonstrating excellence in school budget presentation, setting a high standard for transparent budget development, GPISD has been awarded the Pathway to the Meritorious Budget Award by the Association of School Business Officials.

This has been awarded to the District for fiscal years 2016 and 2017

GPISD is the recipient of Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program (CAFR Program). The GFOA established the program to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure, then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal. The goal of the program is not to assess the financial health of participating governments, but rather to ensure that users of their financial statements have the information they need to do so themselves.

This has been awarded to the District for fiscal years 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015

The TASBO Award of Merit for Purchasing Operations recognizes school district's achievement in implementing best practices in the area of purchasing, and appreciates efforts to achieve excellence in the performance of purchasing operating.

This has been awarded to the District for fiscal years 2015, 2016 and 2017
