Salvador Flores Named Semifinalist for US Presidential Scholars Program
Houston, Texas: Salvador Flores, graduating senior at Galena Park High School, has been named one of the semifinalist in the 2017 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Seven hundred twenty-two semifinalists were selected from nearly 5,100 candidates from high schools across the United States.
The U.S. Presidential Scholarship Program is one of the highest honors bestowed upon graduating seniors. Scholars are selected on the basis of superior academics and artistic achievement, leadership qualities, strong character and school and community involvement.
The program was established in 1964 by Executive Order of the President to recognize the nation’s most distinguished graduating seniors for their accomplishments in academic success, leadership and service to their school and community. Since 1964, the program has expanded to recognize students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical fields, talent in visual, creative and performing arts.
In May, up to 161 U.S. Presidential Scholars will be chosen to represent excellence in education and the promise of greatness in America’s youth. All Scholars are invited to Washington DC in June for the National Recognition Program, featuring various events and enrichment activities and culminating in the presentation of the Presidential Scholar Medallion during a White House sponsored event.
Congratulations Salvador for being selected as a semifinalist!
