North Shore Senior High Teacher Wins TexTESOL Region 4 Teacher of the Year

Houston, Texas: Congratulations to Ms. Elva Williams from North Shore Senior High for winning the TexTESOL Region 4 Teacher of the Year award.¬† ¬†TexTESOL recognizes teachers of English to speakers of other languages.¬† This award is given for making an impact on students’ lives and a difference in the community.

Ms. Williams strives to help others reach their full potential and discover their passion for learning. She spent six years in Turks and Caicos working with local families and teaching English to students with limited access to educational opportunities. In the summer of 2008, she traveled to China, where she taught students English and the American culture to secondary students.

For the past 12 years, Ms. Williams has taught Spanish at North Shore Senior High, as well as, English to new arrival students. North Shore Senior High enrolls over 100 foreign students from all over the world each year. The students rely on Ms. Williams, the New Arrival Center teacher, for support.

Ms. Williams also enjoys helping students by participating in the GPISD Bilingual Mini-Conference, the Literature and the Literacy conference and curriculum writing for the New Arrival Center.
