Superintendent's Message

GPISD Family and Friends,

As hard as it is to believe, August is upon us, and we all know what that means – a new school year is about to begin!  As a lifelong educator, this is such an exciting time for me.  Although my career in education has seen 38 first days of school, I always get butterflies and lose sleep the night before, and I doubt that will ever change!  I hope all of our students, teachers, and administrators feel the same excitement I do to bring on the 2016-17 school year!

What a great year this will be!  In May, our voters approved a $290 million school bond package, which will facilitate the rebuilding of six of our elementary campuses, a new North Shore Senior High School 10th Grade Center, renovations and upgrades to all other campuses and facilities, and land acquisition for facility opportunities in the future. For more information about our bond projects, please visit http://www.galenaparkisd.com/bond2016.

The 2016-17 school year also brings a renewed spirit and energy from the staff of Galena Park ISD; I have visited many training sessions with our new and returning staff, and the excitement in the air is intense.  We stand ready to serve our students, and to help them exceed their academic, social and extracurricular goals.  With all of our academic, fine arts, and athletic successes from last year to motivate us to continue to achieve excellence, we are confident in our students’ abilities to continue to claim victories inside and outside of the classroom, and to wave the GPISD banner proudly at every opportunity.

Please allow me to take a moment to express my gratitude to the GPISD business community for all you do, so often behind the scenes, to support our efforts in ensuring our students are prepared for a new school year.  Without you, our community would not be the thriving community it is today.  As educators, we are preparing for the first day and the year ahead, while you are preparing for the record crowds of families who will enter your doors to shop for school clothes, school supplies, or even stop in for a tasty treat to get relief from the summer heat.  For all that you do to help our community have a successful school year, I thank you and want you to know that you are very much appreciated all year long.

While I am thanking people, I want to thank each and every community member for your continued support of our district, teachers, students and their families. Your support does not go unappreciated or unrecognized. On behalf of the District and those we serve, we thank you and look forward to a great 2016-17 school year!

With warmest regards,

Angi Williams, Ed.D.
