When people talk about her it is always to speak of how wonderful she is. She's worked at Galena Park Elementary and MacArthur, and all four of her children graduate from GPISD. Jessica LeDet- MacArthur Elementary
Mrs. LeDet strives to go above and beyond to make sure the kiddos at MacArthur are taken care of.  Not only at school, but sometimes even with their home life as well.  She has been with GPISD going on 3 years, but you would think that she has been here much longer by the way staff and students speak so highly of her.  Pretty much anything that MacArthur does, she is involved with.  From field days, programs brought to the school, or organizing events to get the parents involved as well.

Homero Torralva- North Shore Senior High

Mr. Torralva is by far the most dedicated caring and compassionate teacher one could ever know.  Each day I watch him pour his whole being into his students new to the country.  Watching his students blossom is truly the highlight of my day. Each day I walk into his class, I see his students hard at work learning to master both a rigorous subject area but attack it in a language they yet to ascertain.  The students find a true refuge in his class and each day they spend with him, they are better than they were the day before!

Ayanna Harris- North Shore Senior High

Mrs. Harris is truly one of a kind.  She has taken the role of a testing coordinator and used it as a vehicle through which she can inspire and motivate students. In everything she does, she measures it against what is best for "this" child.  She is well-versed in accountability and uses this knowledge to find solutions to the best path for student graduation.  Whether the student is GT, LEP, 504 or SpEd, Mrs. Harris truly believes every student should be set on a path to reach their highest potential.  Each day students seek her out in hopes she can shed light to their pathway to success and each time, she gives each student careful consideration of their individual  plight. When the students see her, they are quick to give her a warm embrace.  They often seek her counsel as they know she will most assuredly have their best interest at heart.  At the mere thought of a student wanting to give up, she will stop and drop everything to pour into them until they've ultimately recommitted to fighting the good fight. To many she is their mother and confident and the students feel lucky to have her.  She is undoubtedly deserving of the GPISD Excellent Educator Award!

Amanda Gordon- North Shore Senior High

Amanda Gordon, in her short time as an educator, is such an inspiration.  Currently she serves an English Specialist, a very difficult and stressful job.  But this year has been most impressive as she has used her ability to build relationships with students quadruple the number of students attending tutorials. Where we once had 10-20 students in attendance to tutorials, we now have now nearly 100!  As a dazzling diamond, it is evident Amanda knows how to reach kids. But her gifts do not stop there.  She uses her talent in building relationships to reach her teachers as well.  It makes me so proud to see teachers seeking her out and soliciting her guidance.  She makes meeting with her teachers a priority and is even sure to remind me if I've asked something of her that conflicts with her working directly with teachers.  Each and every day she is exhausted from the work of building capacity in a team of 30 English teachers. Ms. Gordon has not missed a single day of school this year- a testament to her dedication.   She is truly an Excellent Educator!

She opens the library in the mornings for students and host an after school Urban Art club for students.  She helps to develop our school culture by designing bulletin boards, hosting school dances and other events, and mentoring new teachers.  I can't even list all of the committees she is on or she chairs.  Her students create beautiful art that touches her and she is happy to show to anyone who enters her room.  The other day she was so touched by the art that one of her students, who had to be placed on home-bound education, created and turned into her.  All of our freshmen students look to her for a friendly smile in the halls.

Johnnese Hunter- North Shore Senior High

I graduated in 2007 from North Shore Senior High and Mrs. Hunter was one of my teachers! I remember having this one conversation with her because I passed all my TAKS (title at the time) except one and I wanted to give up and not care to even try again. She told me, “No matter how many times you fall the important decision is to get back up and fight" and I did just that and passed on my 3rd try. So now I believe she follows the advice she gave to many of us to keep going. She is not letting cancer stop her and she for sure isn't letting life take her down.

When my son was in her class, he and another child bumped heads and afterwards my son had a headache for the rest of the day. She told me about it and told me she would call and check on him later.  Well, we had to end up taking Larry to the ER because his headache became severe. She called the house while we were gone and low and behold she shows up at the hospital with balloons and a teddy bear for Larry. I have never seen such a devoted teacher in all of my life. She is very deserving of this award.  Thank you.

Sonia Lloyd- Woodland Acres Elementary

Mrs. Sonia Lloyd is very dedicated, not only as a teacher, but also as a role model and a parent.  Mrs. Lloyd has been at this wonderful school for 14 years making a difference and inspiring children to love art and to try their best at everything they do.  She has showed them to see the world around them from an artistic viewpoint.  Several students, as well as my own children, who have been in her class point out things that they have learned to admire in art class from Mrs. Lloyd. They notice the beautiful mix of colors in the sky when the sun is setting or the color of leaves changing in the fall, and how beautiful the scenery can be if you take time to look at the details around you.   Mrs. Lloyd gives so much of her time to prepare projects, and every year she enters our students in all kinds of art contests where many students have been recognized at many levels with ribbons, prizes and even money.  Aside from that, Mrs. Lloyd leads a chapter of the Girl Scouts at our school and she is highly involved in providing this group of girls more life experiences.  Mrs. Lloyd never runs out of energy to go home and take care of her high school daughter, her middle school son, her elementary school daughter and her daycare age baby girl.  Mrs. Lloyd is always willing to help anyone who may need it and is known for her honesty and her lively personality.  For all these reasons, I nominate Mrs. Lloyd as an excellent educator!

Jessica Taylor- North Shore 9

Ms. Taylor co-teaches Algebra at North Shore 9 and is our math department chair. Ms. Taylor goes above and beyond her duties by firstly ensuring all of her students' accommodations are met on a daily basis. She is always looking for new ways of making math content accessible to her students. She often stops me to ask my opinions about new materials and instructional strategies.

Last year, Ms. Taylor noticed her students needed help with adding/subtracting polynomials. She researched the material and helped me develop a supplemental aid that the students could use to make this content easier.

Ms. Taylor is a true team player. Although her background is not in math, you would not be able to tell. She is eager to learn the math content, always asks for me to model lessons, and in turn teaches it to our students.

In short, I could not imagine our department or district without her.

I'm a previous student of Mrs. Kasprzak, I had her for my first 3 class periods. She's an amazing teacher, who would go above and beyond to make learning in the classroom fun in different ways so that everyone would enjoy and learn better. She would have us do arts and crafts to make some lessons more interesting and above all she would encourage us to be involved in all sorts of activities. Not only did she teach us educational lessons but life lessons too, she taught us things that many teachers or others don't. She prepared us for what would come after graduation. She taught us how to prepare our resumes, how to write a proper check and so much more. My senior year of high school was the best year out of all 4 years and Mrs. Kasprzak played a big role in it

Oh the good old 5th grade days, my favorite grade in elementary. I remember the last day of school, our class started chanting COACH B and it was awesome! I may only be in 6th grade, but I am sure he is still with those Pittsburgh Steelers and is the same, funny teacher. I hope he still teaches the same ways he taught me; he was always acting funny and calling people the wrong names just to make students laugh! Fifth grade was the best year yet and I couldn't have imagined my last year in elementary with any other teacher but him.

Therefore, on behalf of my 5th grade class, we think Mr. B is the best coach and teacher ever!

I am nominating Ms. Payne because she dealt with my tough, energetic child and she still treated her with such love and respect all while still being strict and correcting her. My child grew immensely in her class and though she's moved to the next grade level her love for Ms. Payne is constant and I can see why. Even I was able to create a bond with her through school interactions and she is so easy to get along with. She has always proven to be patient and loving. I often feel many of the lower grade levels aren't recognized for their amazing efforts, yet they have the greatest impact on these children being they are easily molded at a young age. My child has been so incredibly blessed to have been part of her class. I thank you, Ms. Payne, for your incredible work, dedication and love.

I thank God that she is there for my children and the rest of the kids in her classroom. Even though their little kids you'll be surprised how working young can help them in their future. My baby is 2 years old and he talks a lot and sings songs. I could go on with a whole list about how good of a teacher she is, but I'll leave it here. Thank you for your support, Ms. Salazar.

I've watched their parliamentary procedures team grow in a span of just a few months. This was their first year competing and they made state! How amazing is that? He has started saying his ABC and telling me an animal, person or thing that's starts with a certain letter. If he doesn't know the letter or sound of it, he starts singing and finds something that starts with that letter. It's so cute. I'm glad to know that he is really learning and it's because his teacher is doing a good job teaching. She doesn't give up on our young children and it makes me so proud that at the beginning of the year my son was not perfect, but now I see a big change for the better. I know that each day he learns and grows in a big way. Thanks to our Pre- K's teachers where it all starts, and thank you Mrs. Reyna for the big changes you give our children.

She has been through a lot since I met her 10 years ago and I've seen her go above and beyond for many students. Everyone that knows her knows that even battling personal health issues she always has a smile for her students and will always do what needs to be done so that student can be ok.
