Jacinto City Elementary students win First Tee Competition |
|
Fourth graders from Jacinto City Elementary were part of the winning Team Elms team that won first place in the recent First Tee competition as part of the Shell Houston Open held at Redstone Golf Club.
The Jacinto City Elementary students joined eight other fourth graders from the Houston area to capture the first place trophy. Representing Jacinto City Elementary were Edgar Acosta, Taylor Dearing, Reyna Velasquez and Andy Mendoza. Taylor Dearing finished the round of 16 holes with a 51, the lowest score in the tournament! The First Tee Houston/Redstone Program promotes character-development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf. The program furnishes everything the students need for golf, including green fees, instructors and clubs. The focus of the First Tee program is to establish a lifelong interest in golf by engaging children in a structured golf curriculum taught during physical education classes, while positively impacting their lives and helping to ensure the vitality of the game. ![]() Shown (l-r) are principal Jim Keal, Taylor Dearing, Reyna Velasquez, Edgar Acosta and Andy Mendoza.
