Team KAOS wins Chairman’s Award at Regional Competition |
|
Team KAOS, the robotics team at Galena Park High School, won the Chairman’s Award during the Greater Kansas City Regional FIRST Robotics Competition held March 6-8 at Hale Arena in Kansas City, Missouri. The award is based on the team’s involvement with community service projects, their efforts of promoting robotics in the elementary and middle school grades, the sponsorship of the Wounded Hero Project at Galena Park High School and their partnership with GE that provides opportunities for students to be mentored by GE employees. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition (FRC) is a unique varsity sport of the mind designed to help high-school-aged young people discover how interesting and rewarding the life of engineers and researchers can be. The FIRST Robotics Competition challenges teams of young people and their mentors to solve a common problem in a six-week timeframe using a standard “kit of parts” and a common set of rules. ![]() Instructors David Scarcella (back row, fourth from left) and Paul Johnson (standing, back right) and Vickie Horst, assistant principal (yellow sweatshirt next to Johnson), join the members of Team KAOS at the FIRST competition in Kansas City.
