Katie Canton to speak with Galena Park ISD secondary students about the dangers of Online Social Networking.

        GPISD’s Instructional Technology Department is hosting an Internet Safety guest speaker, 21 year old Katie Canton, Web Wise Kids Ambassador to Youth.  At the age of 15 Katie found herself being groomed by an Internet predator who convinced her that they were in love.  Thankfully she was able to realize through the help of watchful parents and the "Missing" game that she was being lured by a child predator. This realization prevented her from becoming his next victim.  Katie uses her gripping experience to warn teenagers that they could easily fall into the same trap.

        She is a dynamic speaker at conferences, schools and after school programs.  She has spoken at the California Cyber Security Summit, the 3rd Annual New York State Cyber Security Awareness Conference and the Internet Safety Summit put on by the US Department of Justice and the Colorado Internet Safety Foundation.

        On May 8, 2008 she will be speaking to our secondary students at various campuses and will be broadcasted live via GPTV (internal broadcasting system). Galena Park ISD goal is to reach as many students with her message on that day.
